PORT ELIZABETH INFO

Port Elizabeth, the water sport capital of South Africa, is also the cleanest and safest city in the country.

Weather: Port Elizabeth is situated in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, and is part of the Nelson Mandela Metropole. The weather in June/July may range from warm to cold. As the city is situated on Algoa Bay, it may be windy at times. The University is situated close to magnificent beaches. Please note that sunblock protection is advised.

Security: As with all travellers passing through international airports, take care with your luggage and keep all important personal documents and valuables with you at all times. The conference centre is situated in an area with good security and low crime. However, do not walk alone at night on the beaches or venture into unknown areas that you have not checked with the hotel or conference organisers as being safe. Do not leave valuables in your room or unattended, especially mobile phones.

Transport: The conference site and hotels are close to the airport. Private taxies are available at the airport to transport you to your hotel. The fare should be no more than R30 and the trip should take no more than 10 minutes. Before departing check with the driver what the fare will be before departing otherwise you might be overcharged. Car hire is available from the airport.

Health: The Eastern Cape is a malaria free zone. Excellent medical services are available at Bay Medical Centre 6 - 9th Avenue, Summerstrand – which is about five minutes from the conference centre. Telephone 041 5832121
